Rook's butcher opened their shop in Deal in 1966 buying out the butcher Mr Wood. The shop had been previously managed by Chris Rook's father Roger who had worked for Mr wood since leaving school. The 'little' shop soon became a big shop when Rook's took over the Dewhurst butchers next door in the 1980's and as the town grew and prospered, so did our shop. It remains an important landmark in the High Street and Deal was voted in 2014 High Street of the year and is in the Telegraph's top ten places to spend a weekend.
Rook's in Deal is not only a traditional butchers serving only the best quality produce but also has an unrivalled delicatessen and cheese counter as well as serving hot food, sandwiches, and home made ready to eat pies. in the summer, the beach in Deal is full of people picnicking on a Rook's pie or hot home made jumbo sausage.
Robert Young, Butcher at Deal since 1981said 'I first worked for Rook's after leaving school at the age of 15 over 44 years ago. After my training, I was appointed manager at Broadstairs and then in the early 1980's very proudly accepted the position as manager at Deal. I love my town and my shop and have proudly built it up to be one of the biggest and best in Kent. I have also been lucky enough to have amazing staff to support me and couldn't think of anywhere else I would rather be!'
